About

A risk assurance firm that happens to build its own technology.

We are not a software company that discovered healthcare. What Caredatum sells is an accurate view of a risk position and the work that moves it. We build the technology because that is the only way to produce the view at the standard we are willing to put our name on.

01 Why the firm exists

The organizations carrying the risk were the last to see it clearly.

Caredatum was founded by people who have spent their careers in the mechanics of healthcare risk: how the data is produced, where it goes wrong between the encounter and the settlement, and what it takes to make a number defensible to somebody who does not want to believe it.

What we kept running into was the same problem. Performance in a risk contract is reported constantly and established almost never. Numbers move between parties without the evidence that produced them ever being attached, so nobody can properly question a figure they doubt and nobody can prove a figure they believe. Every other industry that developed that problem built an assurance practice to solve it. Healthcare never did.

02 How we work

Four commitments, and they are testable.

Every finding carries its record

The claim, the encounter, the code, the date. A number that cannot be walked back to the record that produced it does not go in the report, however useful it would be.

Closure is verified, not asserted

A finding is closed when the data shows it closed, not when somebody updates a status field. Where the two disagree, the difference is itself reported.

Every number carries its source

In a deliverable, in a proposal, and on this website. Where a figure is modeled rather than measured, it says so wherever it appears.

We say what is not yet true

Roadmap is described as roadmap. Certification we do not hold is described as in progress. This costs us the occasional deal and it is the only version of this firm worth building.

03 Standing

Where we actually are.

Stage

Caredatum is an early stage firm with live engagements and institutional backing. We publish our methodology rather than a client list, and the baseline exists so that you can test the method on your own data before you take our word for anything.

Data handling

We operate under HIPAA as a business associate. HITRUST certification is in progress. We do not hold it today and we will not imply that we do.

Commercial model

Engagements are structured to suit the counterparty. A fee for the assurance work is the default. Where a client would rather share in what the work produces, we will structure it that way and say so on the engagement.

Who we work for

The organizations accountable for how a panel of members performs and for how the practices underneath it run, whether they carry risk on a contract or are paid fee-for-service, and the buyers acquiring practices among them. The method does not change from one to the next, and neither does the evidence standard. What changes is which of the four dimensions carries the weight.

Markets

The United States, beginning in Florida, and Puerto Rico. Our view of what makes the Puerto Rico market different is set out in full on the markets page.

Next step

Start with a baseline.

An early stage firm asking to establish your position is a fair thing to be cautious about. That is why the baseline comes first and stands on its own: you see the method run on your own data, and judge the firm on what it returns rather than on what this page claims.

Give us one period of data from the contracts you already hold. We return your position across all four dimensions, the evidence behind every finding, and the specific work that would move it. You decide what happens after that, not before.
